Biography
Representative of the genus Gizov, the youngest branch of the Lorraine house. The only son of Louis of Lorraine (1692-1743), Prince de Lambesque, and Jeanne Henrietta Margarita de Durfort, granddaughter of Marshal of France Jacques-Henri de Durfort, 1st Duke de Dure .
On the paternal side, Louis Charles was a representative of the Giza clan, the youngest branch of the Lorraine House . His cousin and cousin were the future emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Franz I Stefan and Elizabeth Theresa of Lorraine , married to the Queen of Sardinia .
On the maternal side, his ancestor was Henri de La Tour d'Overgne, Viscount de Turenne , father of the famous commander Turenne .
From birth he bore the title of Count de Brionne, later he became known as the Prince de Lambesc.
Career
In January 1740, Louis-Charles of Lorraine was enrolled in the Life Guard Regiment. In April of the same year, he received from the king the post of governor of Anjou, which his father had previously held.
In December 1753, Louis-Charles of Lorraine was appointed Ober-Stalmeister of France , this position was previously held by his distant relative Charles of Lorraine (1684-1751), Count of Armagnac. This position was one of the highest crown posts in France ; it could be held by a member of the royal family.
The king of France, Louis XV, appointed him the brigadier of the royal army in April 1745 and made him a knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit ( May 21, 175 2).
Family and Children
January 31, 1740 the first marriage married Louise Charlotte de Gramont (1725-1742), Mademoiselle de Guiche , granddaughter of Marshal of France Antoine de Gramont. The marriage was childless.
December 29, 1744, married a second time to Auguste de Catken (1722-1746), from whom he also had no children.
October 3, 1748 in Paris for the third time married Louise de Rogan (1734-1815), daughter of Charles de Rogan (1693-1766), Prince de Rochefort. The couple had four children:
- Charles Eugene of Lorraine (September 25, 1751 - November 11, 1825), Prince de Lambesque and Count de Brionne, Duke d'Elbeuf
- Josephine of Lorraine (August 26, 1753 - February 8, 1797), wife from 1768 of Prince Victor Amadeus of Savoy (1743-1780), Crown Prince of Carignano
