Biography
Herrera was born in Caboñes, Gijón , in the family of a football player. His father, Eduardo Herrera, was a key striker for Real Oviedo in the 30s and 40s [1] . Chus Herrera also made his professional debut with Real Oviedo, playing two seasons with the club in Segunda . In 1958, he joined Real Madrid .
During his play for the Blancos, Herrera was mostly content with the role of a reservist amid such stars as Alfredo Di Stefano , Francisco Hento , Raymond Copa , Ferenc Puskas and Hector Rial . In the 1959/60 European Cup , he scored three goals in five matches: two against the Jeunesse Ash (7-0 home win) and one against the Nice goal (2-3 loss). In the second match with the French, Real Madrid scored 4-0 and went on.
March 13, 1960 Herrera played one friendly match for the Spanish national team against Italy in Barcelona , the hosts won with a score of 3: 1 [2] .
On September 4, 1960, Herrera scored the fourth goal in the Intercontinental Cup match against Peñarol , as a result, Real Madrid won with a score of 5: 1 [3] . Shortly afterwards, however, the management of Real Madrid announced that it did not meet the requirements of the club. In January 1962, he was leased until the end of the Real Sociedad season, which eventually flew out of the Premier League.
Shortly after arriving at the Real Sociedad camp, Herrera ended his career. On October 20, 1962, at the age of only 24, he died of cancer in Oviedo [1] .
