The South Tyrolean version of the German language ( German Südtiroler Deutsch ) is a variant of the German language common in Italian South Tyrol . Belongs to the South Barbara dialects .
The South Tyrolean version was formed as a result of linguistic contacts of local German dialects with the Italian language. By the end of the 20th century, the majority of carriers of the variant lived in villages and small towns; as before, numerous groups of carriers live in the city of Bozen .
Feature
Local words and phrases are called South Tyrolisms ( German: Südtirolismen ). Most legal vocabulary is tracing paper or borrowing from Italian. So, instead of Personalausweis , the word Identitätskarte ( Italian: carta d'identità ) is used, instead of Schulleiter - Schulführungskraft ( Italian: dirigente scolastico ), etc. Significant discrepancies are found in legal vocabulary, as well as in the formation of the names of local authorities and organizations: instead of Strafvollstreckungsk - Überwachungsgericht ( Italian: Tribunali di sorveglianza ). Semantic shifts are often influenced by Italian: the expression didaktische Tätigkeit (en) ( Italian: attività didattiche ) is used instead of the standard German word Unterricht , while in standard German the concepts Didaktik and Unterricht can not even be understood as synonyms.
The syntax of the South Tyrolean variant is characterized by the frequent use of the genetics in cases where it is customary to avoid it in standard German. For example: die Vergabe der Stellen der Zweitsprachlehrer der Grundschule instead of die Stellenvergabe für Zweitsprachenlehrer (= Deutschlehrer an italienischsprachigen Schulen) an Grundschulen.
