Senfl ( German: Ludwig Senfl or Senfel ; born in 1492 in Basel - died between December 2, 1542 and August 10, 1543 in Munich ) is a Swiss composer who worked mainly in Germany.

A student of Henrik Izak , he was friendly with Luther . He wrote spiritual works, mainly motets . Known as the most prolific author of German polyphonic songs (Lieder, only about 250).
Possessing a huge counterpoint technique, in his compositions he did not always give it the predominant value, striving for the artistic musical characterization of the text. In this regard, Zenfl's music to the odes of Horace is especially remarkable.
