Biography
He was born on August 20, 1950 in Kazakhstan , where his family was in the years of deportation . After the rehabilitation of the repressed peoples in the late 1950s, the family returned to Chechen-Ingushetia [1] .
In 1970 he graduated from the Penza Art College named after K. A. Savitsky . After graduation, he worked as a teacher of drawing at a boarding school. Then his works began to appear at republican and zonal exhibitions in the capitals of the republics of the North Caucasus [1] .
In 1982 he became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In the early 1990s, he became chairman of the Union of Artists of the Chechen Republic [2] . In 2012, he was awarded the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of culture [3] [4] .
Creativity
In the 70s of the XX century, the paintings of V. Umarsultanov began to appear at exhibitions of the republic. All of Vakhit’s paintings were imbued with love for his native land, its beauty, and these works attracted attention at zonal exhibitions in the capitals of the North Caucasus republics . The artworks were presented at exhibitions in Germany and Syria [5] .
In the early 90s, when D. Dudaev came to power in the republic, at the most difficult time, he headed the Union of Artists of Chechnya . In December 2000 - January 2001, by personal efforts of V. Umarsultanov, artists from Chechnya participated in the All-Russian art exhibition “Your Name”. The exhibition also featured the works of V. Umarsultanov himself - four paintings, among them “ Kalaus ” - one of his best works.
In May 2002 , at an exhibition of Chechen artists in the halls of the Russian Academy of Arts in Moscow, art lovers got acquainted with new paintings by V. Umarsultanov. He has been organizing this exhibition for more than two years. He has collected the work of many Chechen artists throughout Russia. Despite the workload of the Union of Artists, V. Umarsultanov finds time for creativity. His landscapes are easily recognized at exhibitions.
