The wife of Austrian producer and director Joe May [9] , from whom she had a daughter, Eva May , who also became an actress. From 1912 to 1924 she starred in 41 films.

Biography

At the age of five, she first appeared in the theater [10] , after which she received children's roles. She appeared on the Vienna stage as an actress and singer under the pseudonym Herma Angelot ( German: Herma Angelot ). In 1902, she married director and producer Joe May, from whom she had a daughter, Eva. Later, she also began to play children's roles in the productions of Joe May [12] .

Under the new pseudonym, Mia Mei began working in the theater again in 1910, namely the Operetta House in Hamburg . Later, her husband took a pseudonym for himself [12] . In 1912, May starred in her husband ’s first film “In a Deep Pit” ( German: In der Tiefe des Schachtes ) [13] . In subsequent years, her work was not limited to Joe May's projects. She starred in the film Fritz Lang's “ Wandering Image ” ( 1920 ) and in major projects by Joe May - “Veritas Vincit” ( 1919 ), “Mistress of the World” ( German Die Herrin der Welt ) (1919), “ Indian Tomb ” ( 1921 ) and The Tragedy of Love ( German: Tragödie der Liebe ) ( 1923 ).

After the suicide of her daughter Eve, in 1924, Mia ended her acting career. Together with her husband in 1933 she emigrated to the United States.
