Biography
He came from the nobility of the Kharkov province of Gromov . Born October 14, 1787 .
Graduated from Kharkov collegium . Since 1805 he studied at Kharkov University ; in 1811 he was sent to study in Moscow. Since 1812, he began reading commerce at Kharkov University, and a review of natural history at the medical faculty ; in 1813, one of the first at Kharkov University received a doctorate. In 1820-1835 he was an associate professor in the department of pharmacology, history and literature of medicine, the main emphasis was on pharmacology; in 1835-1837 he worked at the Department of Medical Substances [1] .
Ya. N. Gromov was the first to express the idea of the possibility of classifying medicinal plants according to the nature of their therapeutic effect, depending on the chemical structure. Together with V. S. Komlishinsky, he translated the work of F. Guise “On the most profitable way to extract and purify nitrate based on chemical principles” (Kharkov, 1811). Also, I. N. Loboiko assisted in the translation of the book by G. Attenhofer, “Medical and Topographical Description of St. Petersburg”.
He died on June 19, 1839 with the rank of state councilor . Together with his wife Catherine (11/25/1800 - 02/08/1841) he was buried in Kharkov at the Kholodnogorsk cemetery.
