Biography
The first review by Dmitry Maslyanenko appeared in the October issue of the journal "Historical Herald" for 1908 [2] . Since then, he worked in the journal of S. N. Shubinsky and B. B. Glinsky for almost ten years until the very closing of the publication in 1917. He wrote over a hundred reviews on various fields of knowledge: printing, aeronautics, astronomy, education, history, literature, Silver Age poetry , art history, military history, musicology, etc. [2]
Most of Maslyanenko’s reviews are now completely forgotten by researchers, with the exception of a few: these are reviews of the letters of A. P. Chekhov , the publisher I. D. Sytin , and the memoirs of E. N. Vodovozova “At the dawn of life.” The authors of the preface to the 1964 edition of “Memoirs of the Sixtieth,” E. S. Vilenskaya and L. I. Roitberg, note the high appreciation of the memoirs of Vodovozova, which was given to them in the “Historical Bulletin” by Dmitry Maslyanenko: “... Exactly you are reading a novel, madam Vodovozova makes the reader so imbued with all the life sorrows and joys of the heroes of his memories, so get in touch with them, so interested in their characters, attitudes, activities, habits, etc., that from the author’s side, something else is required about how he could so capture the attention of his reader ” [3] .
In addition to reviews signed most often, "M-o" or "D. M. ”or even those without a signature, Maslyanenko began to publish independent articles - in particular, he wrote the obituary of Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich , known in literary circles under the pseudonym“ K. R. ", as well as a large article" Russian poets about modern warfare ", dedicated to two issues of the almanac" Modern Warfare in Russian Poetry ", compiled by B. B. Glinsky. The collections included poems by Russian poets about the war - the works of V. Bryusov , A. Blok , F. Sologub , Z. Gippius , A. Akhmatova , K. Balmont , I. Severyanin and many others [2] . This review is in the field of view of bruising and block studies to characterize the attitude of these poets to the First World War in the evaluation of contemporaries [4] [5] .
B. B. Glinsky, becoming the editor-in-chief of the magazine after the death of S. N. Shubinsky, made D. A. Maslyanenko the executive secretary of the “Historical Bulletin”. Without ceasing to write reviews, under the leadership of Glinsky Maslyanenko began to compose the “Mix” section, which was previously filled by V. R. Zotov and B. V. Nikolsky [6] . With the outbreak of World War I (from the August issue of 1914) a new rubric “Historical Chronicle” appeared in the journal. It was published without attribution in front of the main text of the journal and with a separate pagination. This section of modern events in the historical journal was also led by Dmitry Maslyanenko [2] .
Since the “Historical Bulletin” was a conservative-monarchist publication, the tone of the “Historical Annals” of Dmitry Maslyanenko was chauvinistic in spite of the declared objectivity and official reliability. After the revolution, Maslyanenko remained in Russia, in the twenties and thirties he was known as a children's writer, as well as a music figure and music critic, who devoted himself to the promotion of amateur music and playing folk instruments. In his articles, he turned to the folk Russian song in the processing of A. K. Lyadov , A. N. Serov , A. P. Borodin , V. V. Andreev and others [7] .
During these years, he lived in Leningrad and worked as executive secretary of the Leningrad Komsomol newspaper Smena. So, in the fall of 1926, as part of the proletcult program to cleanse the Soviet musical repertoire from Nepman's “base music”, the Smena newspaper organized a show of balalaika musicians and harmonists. Among the organizers of the competition were V.P. Kipriyanov, student of the founder of the first orchestra of Russian folk instruments, V.P. Kipriyanov, and D. A. Maslyanenko, secretary of the Smena newspaper. The musical jury was led by composer A.K. Glazunov . The jury consisted of the head and conductor of the V. V. Andreev Russian Folk Instruments Orchestra, F. A. Niman, and the popular harmonists Y. F. Orlansky-Titarenko and L. D. Rakoll [8] .
Here is how Maslyanenko himself wrote about this event:
On the seventh floor of house No. 14 on Sotsialisticheskaya Street , where the Smena newspaper was then located, something incredible happened in those days. People of different professions, different ages, a 76-year-old disabled person and a schoolboy of 8 years old, turners, doctors, locksmiths, engineers, etc., went up on the elevator and on foot. And the sounds of the waltz joined the phone calls, the cod of the editorial machines, the balalaikas strummed, spilled vociferous button accordions, squeaky modest two-row, saratovki, "Livenki", "Lame." Some unemployed hairdresser with a mustache, like that of William II , despite our most energetic protests, showed the editorial board his achievements in an artistic whistle.
And everyone, except for harmonists and balalaika players, abusively cursed “Smena” for not being allowed to participate in the competition. To the representatives of the editorial office that the second contest-review will be held next year, where it will be possible to play any instrument, at least at the Poker, the offended said: “Why in the future, and not this year? Why is zither forbidden? Why don’t you allow a guitar? ”

In 1929, the publishing house "Krasnaya Gazeta" co-authored with the same V. P. Kipriyanov published the book "Three-stringed singer. Balalaika ” [9] . In the same year, together with M.O. Yankovsky , the future director of the Leningrad Theater of Musical Comedy , he published the book “The Jokesmen”, also dedicated to amateur performances. In addition to musical themes, he still wrote on the most pressing topics. In 1930, two of his books on state loans were published: in the publishing house "Krasnaya Derevnya" co-authored with B. Zeldovich, his propaganda brochure "Loan. Five-year plan for four years in questions and answers ”, dedicated to the release in July 1930 of the state internal winning loan“ Five-year plan for four years ” [10] . In the Young Guard , together with Joseph Albats (he maintained friendly relations with the editorial board of the Smena newspaper [11] ), the book Youth on State Loans was published. This book received critical review on the pages of the newspaper Izvestia in a review by V. A. Popov [12] .
Maslyanenko corresponded with the composer and music critic B.V. Asafiev [13] . In 1930, he also published the book The Jolly Brigade (The Pioneer Fans) [14] . A number of Maslyanenko's articles were devoted to military history: “The military art of our ancestors”, “The process of fifty-two” about the failed uprising of the Baltic sailors in 1912 [15]
In subsequent years, Maslyanenko continued to be published in the Leningrad press - the newspaper " Evening Leningrad " and other print media. In 1960, in the Leningrad branch of the publishing house "Muzgiz" in the two-volume "A. Glazunov, studies, materials, publications, letters, in two volumes ”his work“ A. K. Glazunov and amateur performances of the 1920s ” [16] , in which he retrospectively evaluated the musical movement of the twenties in the framework of the Soviet musicological paradigm:“ Sprouts of a new, Soviet culture made their way more and more clearly every year ... In clubs and red corners , in home enlightenments and reading huts, at enterprises, in universities, schools, our youth, thanks to the daily care and attention of the Communist Party and the Soviet government, joined culture, studied eagerly, developed, got the opportunity to manifest s their talent in different fields of art " [17] .
