History
The prototype for the creation of a theater in Hamburg was the Circus Gymnasticus in Vienna . The future "Operetta House" was opened in 1841 . The first version of his auditorium could accommodate up to 3,000 people.
In 1864, the circus gymnastics theater was renamed the Central Hall ( German: Central-Halle ). The building burned down in 1876 , but was restored a year later.
The theater received the name "Operetta House" in 1920 , and the prefix "TUI" was added in 2007 .
In the mid -1980s, the city municipality sold the theater to Stella Entertainment AG for a nominal price. Here the company puts on the successful musical " Cats ", which has been on the scene for almost fifteen years. Then came the Fosse show and the musical Ah, what a night! In 2001, Stella was declared bankrupt and the theater came under the control of the theater company Stage Entertainment Germany , which continues to rent musicals at the Operetta House.
In October 2011, the theater was fully redeemed by Stage Entertainment Germany for 7.1 million euros.
