My Little Armalite (also known as Baby Armalite ), also known as Little Armalite or Me Little Armalite [1], is a song of the rebels of the Irish Republican Army , dedicated to assault rifles of the Armalite series - the most common type of small arms among Irish rebels [2] .

Background
The history of the song goes back to the 1970s, when the "temporary" wing of the IRA secretly purchased samples of modern weapons at that time: the American Armalite AR-15 assault rifle was most often supplied to Irish rebels [3] , although they included soldiers armed with more modern AR-18 . Both samples had a caliber of 5.56 mm. However, the song itself speaks of a civilian version of the AR-180, which was freely sold in the United States.
Story
The main character of the song recounts skirmishes and battles in which he participated, being an IRA fighter. In the beginning, he appears defenseless, as a British soldier mocks him, in addition, also beating the hero. Over time, the hero is trained in shooting and gives an armed rebuff to the British police and soldiers, even despite their superiority in power and equipment. The song mentions places such as Bogside (district of Derry ), Crossmaglen (a place in the county of Armagh ), Kilwilki (district of the city and metropolitan area Lurgan ), Falls Road (also in Lurgan), Belfast and Ballymerfi. The slang word " Provos " means colleagues from the Provisional IRA (from the word " Provisional ").
There are several variations of the song, in each of which slightly different places may be presented, and some verses are not performed.
