Viro, Oleg Yanovich

Oleg Yanovich Viro ( born Oleg Viro ; born in 1948) is a Soviet and Russian mathematician in the field of topology and algebraic geometry, who has worked in many foreign universities.

Biography

Born on May 13, 1948 in Leningrad.

He studied at the Leningrad State University, where he received his PhD in 1974 (headed by Vladimir Abramovich Rokhlin ), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences from 1983. From 1973 to 1991 he taught at Leningrad State University . From 1986 to 2015 he was a member of the Leningrad / St. Petersburg branch of the Institute. Steklov . Winner of the Leningrad Mathematical Society (1975).

Then he worked abroad. In 1992-1997 he was a professor at the University of California at Riverside . In 1994–2007, he was a professor at Uppsala University in Sweden, resigned because of the conflict. In 1986-2015, Viro - senior researcher at the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute. Steklov. Since 2008 - Professor at the University of New York at Stony Brook .

Oleg Virovich was a guest speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 1983 in Warsaw . In 2000, he gave a plenary report at the European Mathematical Congress in Barcelona . Winner of the Goran Gustafsson Prize ( 1997 ) of the Swedish government, in 2012 became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
