Service and Policy
Born in the Ottoman Empire, in the village of Ulanzi , on the territory of the present Republic of Macedonia . He graduated from a military school, served in the Bulgarian army. He commanded a battalion in the 25th Infantry Regiment. By 1944 , the year the Bulgarian Communists came to power, he had the military rank of colonel .
Anton Krastev was actively involved in the political struggle of 1923 on the side of the right-wing forces. He took part in the arrest and murder of Prime Minister Alexander of Istanbul [1] .
Anti-Communist Underground
Anton Krastev adhered to nationalist and anti - communist views. He hostilely perceived the coming to power of the Patriotic Front , in which the Communists played the main role. In November 1945, Krastev founded the underground organization Tsar Krum [2] , which was preparing the overthrow of the government and planning a series of sabotage and terrorist attacks. The Tsar Krum program envisaged the western orientation of Bulgaria while ensuring national interests.
In the spring of 1946 , Tsar Krum was liquidated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs . In August 1946 , a trial of the organizationβs leaders took place [3] . Colonel Krastev was sentenced to death and hanged on September 15, 1947 .
Change grades
In the NRB, Anton Krastev was considered "a fascist and a terrorist who suffered a well-deserved punishment." In modern Bulgaria, he is respected by a significant part of society, especially among nationalists and the military. The Union of Alumni of the National Military University suggests assigning the name of Colonel Krastev to one of Sofia streets [4] . A memorial plaque was installed on the facade of the building where Anton Krastev lived: He shared the fate of his people ... Bulgaria survived because it had such sons .
Interesting Facts
The namesake of the anti-communist Anton Krastev was a prominent BKP activist Tsolo Krastev .
