Biography
Orphan, a graduate of the Smolensk order of public charity. In October 1828 he was taken by the adopted son to the family of captain N. I. Ladigin, who, dying in 1831, bequeathed that his pupil lived until his adulthood in the family.
Secondary education in the Smolensk gymnasium (1837-1842). Then he graduated from the law faculty of Moscow University (1846) with the degree of a candidate of law and entered the service in the Office of the Moscow Civil Governor; in 1848 he was appointed junior assistant to the governor of the office. From September 1849 he was the senior teacher of jurisprudence in the 1st Moscow gymnasium . At the end of December 1850, he was appointed acting as an extraordinary professor of laws of state improvement and decency, civil and criminal laws with legal proceedings in the Yaroslavl Demidov Juridical Lyceum .
In February 1858, he moved to Moscow University : adjunct , extraordinary professor (1861), ordinary professor (1871) of the Russian civil laws department. In September 1859 he defended his master's thesis "On the beginnings of inheritance in the most ancient Russian law", in May 1871 - his doctoral thesis "On the main points of inheritance." In 1865, "in order to study the open and oral process" by the Ministry of Public Education, he was sent abroad.
