Biography
John Baldwin Buxton was born on September 14, 1802 in the East End in London in the Hoxton area. After graduating from high school, he began to study law, but his passion for the theater made him abandon his legal career.
He began his stage activities with a traveling theater on provincial provincial stages in the southeast of England , but, in 1824, meeting the actor Edmund Keane gave him the opportunity to shine on the London stage [3] .
Speaking on the stage of the theater, Adelphi Buxton himself began quite successfully to write dramatic works [4] [3] .
He became very famous for playing the main role in his own play: “ Luke the labourer ”, and since then Buxton has become a favorite of the London public. Small in stature, but of a pleasant appearance, expressive and talented in the game, he attracted the sympathy of the audience for a long time [3] .
Since 1853, Buxton was the director of the Hydemarket Theater ( English Haymarket Theater ).
Over the years, Buxton had a close relationship with actress Fanny Fitzwilliam and they were about to get married, but Fanny fell ill with cholera and died on September 11, 1854.
In total, Buxton wrote about one and a half hundred works, among which were, in particular, “ A lesson for ladies ” and “ The green bushes ”.
In 1877, as a result of illness, John Baldwin Buxton was forced to resign as director of the theater. Two years later, he died in his London house, but until his death (October 31, 1879) he tried to attend all the premieres of the collective, to which he devoted almost a quarter of a century [5] .
