Biography

He was born in the family of an employee of the colonial administration, who was one of the most active participants in the Upper Volta campaign, previously shared by Niger, Mali and the Ivory Coast. In 1962, he received a bachelor's degree from Philippe Zinda Cabore High School in Ouagadougou. To continue his education, he went to the USA. In 1967 he was admitted to Columbia University in New York.

  • 1970-1975 - Director for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

  • 1979-1983 - Director of the Sudan-Sahelian Bureau of the United Nations,
  • 1983-1984 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Upper Volta,
  • 1988-1989 - Ambassador to China, India and Japan,
  • 1990-1992 - Special Representative of the UN Secretary General at the Conference on Environment and Development,
  • 1993-2007 - Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification,

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, he was elected to the National Assembly from the party for democracy and socialism, becoming one of the two deputies who received a mandate from this party. He was elected deputy chairman of the National Assembly.

In 2012, he was re-elected to parliament, and was also the mayor of Dori. He was in opposition to the president. Member of the opposition to President Compaoré . In the presidential election in 2010, he took second place, receiving 8.2% of the vote in his support.
