Danxia ( Chinese 丹霞 ) is a collection of landscapes located mostly in the Chinese province of Hunan . The landscapes are formed by red sandstone and are characterized by the presence of a large number of steep cliff-cliffs [1] , the existence of which is due to both endogenous (such as the rise of tectonic plates) and exogenous ( weathering and erosion ) factors [2] .
Geologically and geographically, this territory consists of six regions connected to each other. They include Chishui, Tainin, Lanshan, Danxian, Longhushan, Jiangliang. In August 2010, all six Danish landscape regions were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List [3] . The total area of the territory included in the list is 821.5 km². Flora Danxia is represented by 5772 species of vascular plants, fauna - 836 species of vertebrates and 3073 species of insects.
A similar landscape site near the city of Zhangye in the Gansu province is under state protection as the Zhangye-Danxia Geopark .
