History

It leads its history from the 22nd Tank Brigade formed in the Moscow Region in October 1941.

For the heroism, courage, steadfastness, organization, high military skill and discipline shown by the personnel in battles with the Nazi invaders, it was transformed into the 40th Guards Tank Brigade (October 23, 1943) [1] by Order of the Non-Profit Organization No. 306 of October 23, 1943. On the same day (October 23, 1943) was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .

In the Proskurovsky-Chernivtsi offensive operation, Chertkov ( Chortkov ) distinguished herself in the battles during the liberation of March 23 and was awarded the honorary name Chertkovskaya (April 3, 1944) [2] .

For skillful actions that contributed to other formations of the 11th Guards Tank Corps and the 24th Rifle Division in the possession of March 29, Chernivtsi ( Chernivtsi ), was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 2nd degree (April 8, 1944).

The brigade warriors showed high military skill and courage when defeating the enemy in the foothills of the Carpathians and entering the Soviet-Romanian state border, for which she was awarded the Order of the Red Star (April 18, 1944).

Subsequently, she successfully fought in the Lviv-Sandomierz, Warsaw-Poznan and East Pomeranian offensive operations.

For military distinctions during the entry of Soviet troops into the province of Brandenburg, she was awarded the Order of Suvorov 2nd degree (April 5, 1945).

April 26, 1945 for exemplary fulfillment of command assignments in battles with the German invaders during the breakthrough of German defenses east of the city of Stargard and the capture of the cities of Berwalde , Tempelburg , Falkenburg , Dramburg , Vangerin , Labes , Freienwalde , Schiefelbein , Regenwalde , Kerlin and the manifestation of it awarded the Order of Lenin [3] .

In April-May she participated in the Berlin offensive operation. In the battles for Berlin, the assault groups created in the brigade were especially successful.

According to the order of the NCO No. 0013 dated June 10, 1945, the brigade was reorganized into the 40th Guards Tank Regiment .
