Biography

In 1949 he graduated from the Faculty of History of Moscow State University, from 1950 he taught at it, in 1953 he defended his thesis “Feudal Cities of North-Eastern Russia of the XIV-XV centuries”, published in 1959 as a monograph. In 1972 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Problems of the Russian State in Pre-Revolutionary Historiography (From the History of Russian Historical Science." In 1953-1956 - head of the editorial board of the history of the USSR publishing house " Great Soviet Encyclopedia ", in 1959-1962 - director of the Scientific Library of Moscow State University named after A M. Gorky : Since 1971, he headed the Laboratory of the History of Russian Culture, which was created at the faculty, and since 1974 he headed the Department of History of the USSR during the period of feudalism.
In 1982, he became a posthumous laureate of the USSR State Prize for his participation in the preparation of multivolume Essays on Russian Culture of the 13th – 17th Centuries. ”, Whose editor-in-chief was.
