History
The village was founded as a manor house with a distillery in the middle of the 19th century by state councilor Karl Fedorovich von Wendrich. In the 1860s, the plant was bought by merchant N. G. Venevitinov (about 1824-1892). He also exploited in the Usmansky forest the adjacent forest tracts: Zavodskaya corner, Golenak, Seredka, Kutyi hollows. The merchant Nikolai Grigorievich Venevitinov, the most famous Voronezh merchant and public figure of the second half of the XIX century, in 1871-1883 was a member of the Voronezh City Duma. In the 1870s, N. G. Venevitinov rebuilt the plant and the manor house. In 1883, “a distillery with 300 dessiatines of land and a small forest growing on it, a steam mill about 4 postahs, a dwelling house of 12 rooms ... ” was sold to A. S. Khvoshchinskaya, the only daughter of the XIX century S.L. Kryazhov. To her also passed from his father's plant in McLock.
In Soviet times, the estate on Usmanka until the 1960s was the Venevitinovsky cordon of forestry. In 1946, on the Venevitinovsky cordon, under the direction of the scientist-zoologist I. I. Barabash-Nikiforov , the foundation of the biological station of VSU occurred, which played an important role in the scientific research of Usmansky boron. Since 1948, premises for a biostation have been built around the cordon, and in the 1960s a recreation center was established.
