Biography

Born February 26, 1916 in Brooklyn in the family of Herbert and May Gleason (nee Kelly), immigrants from Ireland . A few years later, in December 1925, his father abandoned his family, and Jackie went to work for a transport company.

After his father left, young Gleason was left unattended, hanging around the streets with a local gang, and occasionally attended schools that he never graduated from. He went to theaters in search of work, where he sometimes worked as an entertainer and performed episodic roles ( Halsey Theater and Folly Theater ). Jackie was raised by her mother, who died in 1935. The family of his first girlfriend suggested Jackie to take him away from New York, but he stayed in the city and settled in a hotel room with a friend, a comedian of one of the theaters. A friend found Gleason as a comedian in Reading, Pennsylvania, where his agent secured the salary that was enough for a trip to Reading and for a living. This was Gleason's first job as a professional comedian working in small clubs.

This was followed by a great career as a comedian, work with many famous theaters and film studios, filming on television, acting as a musician.
