Tamara Pavlovna Garkushina ( February 1, 1946 , Yelets district ) - Soviet track cyclist , played for the USSR team in the second half of the 1960s and the first half of the 1970s. Six-time world champion in the individual pursuit, multiple champion of the All-Union and All-Russian championships in various disciplines. At the competition she represented the sports society Dynamo , Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1967).

Biography
Tamara Garkushina was born on February 1, 1946 in the village of Kartofelnaya experimental station of the Yelets district of the Lipetsk region . In 1963, she graduated as a plasterer and painter from the Tula City Vocational and Technical School No. 15, after which she worked for two years in distribution in the Tula City Construction and Installation Departments, and then for two more years she was a plasterer at SMU No. 2 of the Irkutskspetstsilinstroy Trust in Irkutsk. Returning to Tula in 1965, she began to actively engage in cycling on the local track, and was a member of the Tula voluntary sports society Dynamo .
The first serious success in track cycling was achieved in 1966, when she became the USSR champion in individual and team pursuit races . A year later, she repeated this achievement and thanks to a series of successful performances she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the World Championships in Amsterdam, where she defeated all her rivals in individual pursuit and won a gold medal. For ten years, she won a total of thirteen times the title of champion of the Soviet Union in track disciplines: eight times in individual pursuit races (1966-1969, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976) and five times in team (1966-1968, 1970, 1973). Of the seven world championships in which she took part, she won six (1967, 1970-1974), only in the competitions of 1968 in the Czech city of Brno in the final she lost to compatriot Raisa Obodoevskaya and finally got a silver medal [1] .
Also in 1974, Garkushina won the All-Union Championship in the road group race. He is a thirteen-time champion of the RSFSR in various track disciplines, a multiple world and USSR record holder. For outstanding sports achievements she was awarded the honorary title " Honored Master of Sports of the USSR " [2] .
After completing her sports career in 1980, she got a job at the Tula Railroad Post Office, later between 1982-1985 she worked as a trainer and teacher in cycling at the trade union committee of the sports club of the Precision Engineering Plant, and in 1985-1990 she was a machine tool at the plant named after S. M. Kirova, then until 1993 she worked as a pickle woman at the rolling shop of the Tula Cartridge Plant production association. In retirement, he is engaged in social activities, the development of cycling in the region and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. In 2003 she was awarded the title “Honorary Dynamo”, since 2010 she has been “ Honorary Citizen of the hero city of Tula ” [3] .
