San Jacinto [2] is a city in Riverside County , California . Got a name in honor of St. Hyacinth . Located in the northern part of the San Jacinto Valley , north of the city of Hemet , in the highlands.

The indigenous people who inhabited these places were the Indian tribes of Luiseno .

San Jacinto was founded in 1870, received city status on April 20, 1888, making it one of the oldest cities in Riverside County. In the same year the railway came to the city.

On July 14, 1937, an ANT-25 aircraft with a crew of Mikhail Gromov , Sergey Danilin , and Andrei Yumashev [3] landed on a field near San Jacinto after a long non-stop flight from Moscow via the North Pole (10078 km). This flight was the second non-stop flight across the North Pole . In the early 1950s, in memory of the flight of the crew of Gromov, a stone sign was installed in the western part of the center of San Jacinto.

Demographics

According to the 2010 US Census, the San Jacinto population was 44,199. The population density is 653.1 people per square km. Racial Composition: 57.2% White , 3% Asians, 6.6% Blacks , 1.8% Native Americans, 0.3% Hawaiians and Pacific Islander, 25.4% Other Races, 5.7% Descendants of Two and more races.

According to the US Census of 2000, the median income per household in the city was $ 30,627, and family income was $ 34,717. For men, the average income is $ 31,764, and for women $ 25,392. The average per capita income is $ 13,265. 20.3% of families or 15.2% of the population were below the poverty line , including 26.6% of youth under the age of 18 and 12.2% of adults over the age of 65.

Here Theodosius Grigorievich Dobrzhansky (1975) died - a Soviet and American geneticist , entomologist , one of the founders of the synthetic theory of evolution .
