Biography

Born on December 24, 1961 in the village of Sukleya, Slobodzeysky district of the Moldavian SSR. Father is Moldavian, mother is Belarusian.

After the family moved to Belarus , to Gomel , where Sergey graduated from the local high school and vocational school, after which he got a job at the factory, while also graduating from the DOSAAF aviation club .

  • In 1980, he joined the Air Force;
  • In 1984 he graduated from the Yeisk Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots . He served in the aviation units of attack aircraft in the Carpathian Military District and in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany, where he was subsequently promoted: pilot, senior pilot, deputy commander of an assault aviation squadron for political affairs;
  • In 1986-1987 - a participant in the Afghan war, made about 300 sorties;
  • In 1992-1993 - a participant in the war in Abkhazia and the Civil War in Tajikistan;
  • Since 1993 - deputy flight commander of the 461st assault aviation regiment of the 1st assault air division of the 4th air army (the regiment is stationed in Krasnodar);
  • In 1995 he graduated from the Air Force Academy named after Yu. A. Gagarin;
  • In 1994-1996 - a participant in the first Chechen war, made over 600 sorties against illegal armed gangs.
  • In 1999 - a participant in the hostilities in Dagestan and the second Chechen war. He made hundreds of sorties to destroy equipment and fortified points of the militants, inflicting significant damage on them.

By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated March 10, 2000, for the courage and heroism shown during the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus region, Lt. Col. Ropotan Sergey Alexandrovich was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation with the Golden Star medal. The award was presented on March 28, 2000 at the Grand Kremlin Palace [1] .

Continues to serve in the Russian army. Member of the regional public Foundation for the support of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Heroes of the Russian Federation [2] .

He was awarded the Soviet Order of the Red Star, "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" III degree, the Russian Order of Courage, medals, as well as foreign awards: the medal "From the grateful Afghan people" (Afghanistan), the Order of Leon (Abkhazia) [3] .
