In 1957-1965 studied in Moscow in VGIK . In 1961, together with three fellow practitioners - Andrey Smirnov , Boris Yashin and Anthony Voyazos - shot the short film “Yurka is a teamless team” (according to the same story by Anatoly Kuznetsov ), the main role was played by Vasily Shukshin . In 1966, together with Voyazos, based on the autobiographical prose of Nazim Hikmet, he made his debut feature film “Life is a good thing, brother!” At Azerbaijanfilm Studio. The last work of Askerov as a director was the picture “I was not a beauty” (together with Tofig Tagizade ), which appeared on the screen after his death. In addition, Askerov wrote the screenplay for a documentary film about the Azerbaijani caricaturist Azim Azimzade (1967, director Zeinab Kazymova).
