He graduated from the 155th male secondary school in the Smolninsky district of Leningrad. Now it is the 155th gymnasium of the Central District of St. Petersburg [12] . He graduated from the Physics Department of Leningrad University (1956). Pupil O. A. Ladyzhenskaya (supervisor) and V. A. Fok . Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1959); The theme of the PhD thesis is “S-matrix properties for scattering at a local potential”. Doctor of Physics and Mathematics (1963), defended his thesis on the results of research in the field of quantum scattering theory for a three-particle system.

Professor of Leningrad (St. Petersburg) State University (1967). Full member (academician) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976).

He worked in the Leningrad branch of the Mathematical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences as a junior, senior researcher, head of the laboratory of mathematical problems of physics. In 1968-1973 read lectures on quantum mechanics for students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics. From 1976 to 2000 - Director of the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) branch of the V. A. Steklov Mathematical Institute. In 1988-1992, he was the director-organizer of the L. Euler International Mathematical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences . Wife - Anna Mikhailovna Veselova, theoretical physicist. Daughters - Elena, a mathematician; Maria, a theoretical physicist. 4 grandchildren.

He was buried in Zelenogorsk cemetery.

Scientific activity

He made a fundamental contribution to the solution of the three-body problem in quantum mechanics ( the Faddeev equation ), the inverse problem of the scattering theory for the Schrödinger equation in the three-dimensional case, and the quantization of non-Abelian gauge fields by the path integral method ( Faddeev-Popov perfume , together with V. N. Popov ), in the creation of the quantum theory of solitons and the quantum method of the inverse problem; in the development of the theory of quantum groups. The author of more than 200 scientific papers and five monographs.
