His parents, Artashes and Voski Shaginyans, brilliant representatives of the Armenian intelligentsia from Moks (now Bakhchesaray , Turkey), fleeing from the Armenian genocide in Turkey in 1915 , were forced to leave their homes and move to Yerevan. Even at an early age, his artistic abilities and love of art were revealed. The first acquaintance with the sculpture and the development of creative skills began with a visit to the sculpture circle at the Palace of Pioneers of Yerevan. Already in 1939, being a student of the Yerevan Art School, A. Shaginyan , with the sculptural composition "David of Sasun and Kozbadi", took part in the exhibition dedicated to the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the epic " David of Sasun ". It is said that Academician I. Orbeli stood before her for a long time, pronouncing: “with the resurgent people, his art is being revived” [2] . A. Creativity
Arsham Shahinyan is one of the first sculptors who stood at the origins of "resurgent art", "resurgent country." From the early years of work, A. Shaginyan attracted special attention and was highly appreciated by art historians and the public, his bas-reliefs were compared with the bas-reliefs of the great Italian sculptor Donatello [5] . This is how Marietta Shaginyan describes in his book “Traveling in Soviet Armenia” one of the works of the novice sculptor - “Future builders”: “Two teenagers in builders' aprons, looking up from building bricks, look at the blueprint of the building being constructed. One sits, spreading the paper on his lap. ... This is generally one of the best sculptural works of recent years ... " [6] .
A. Shaginyan in 1967 , as a tribute to the greatness of the Armenian people, its centuries-old culture, language and writing, in the monumental ensemble dedicated to the historical Armenian luminaries of science and culture - in front of the Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, a monument to Toros Roslin is created (in Armenian .որոս Ռոսլին ) [2] [7] , an Armenian miniaturist of the 13th century Cilician school.
One of the most famous works of A. Shaginyan is the “ Sardarapat Memorial Complex ”, dedicated to the Sardarapat battle , created jointly with the sculptors Samvel Manasyan , Ara Harutyunyan and the architect Raphael Israelyan in 1968 [1] . The complex is located 10 km from the city of Armavir ( Armenian. Армրմավիր ) and is dedicated to the defeat of the Turkish army by the Armenian people in 1918 . This memorial in 1969 was nominated for the State Prize of the USSR and is considered one of the most remarkable monuments and a model of monumental sculpture of our time. [2] [5]
Strengthening the friendship between the Russian and Armenian peoples, responding to the appeal of the Orenburg people, in 1976, at the place of the death of the great Armenian poet Vahan Teryan in Orenburg , A. Shaginyan and architects Astghik Shaginyan and Stefan Lazaryan created and erected a memorial monument to this cultural and political figure [8] . The monument is a composition about three meters high from the bust on a pedestal, on which are written the words: “VAAN TERYAN. The outstanding Armenian Communist poet statesman 1885-20. He died in Orenburg. " [9] .
In his works, A. Shaginyan repeatedly referred to the theme of the Great Patriotic War , among his works is a sculptural portrait of Admiral I. Isakov , a monument to "Immortality". In 1980 , in the village of Meghradzor, in a creative alliance with the architect Arakel Arshakovich Gabrielyan , A. Shaginyan , a memorial monument was created for soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War [1] [3] .
Among the monumental works of A. Shaginyan is a memorial complex dedicated to the “Builders of the Yerevan Quarter ” in Slavutych , architect Stefan Lazaryan (built in 1987 ) [10] . The city of Slavutych was founded for NPP workers and their families after the Chernobyl disaster .
