The first serious success was achieved in 1961, the year she became the champion of the USSR in four disciplines at once: sprint, team pursuit , group race and 500 meters. A year later, she again won the All-Union Championship in the standings of the individual sprint, after which she won the right to defend the honor of the country at the World Championships in Milan, where she was also the best. A year later, she won the title of champion of the Soviet Union in team pursuit, but failed to defend the title of world champion, lost to Galina Ermolaeva and Irina Kirichenko at the world championship in the Belgian Rokure and was forced to be content with a bronze medal.

In 1965, Savina again won the sprint at the USSR Championship, went through the main team of the national team and visited the World Championships in Spanish San Sebastian, from where she brought the golden dignity award, overcoming all her rivals. The following season, she tried to defend the world title at the competitions in Frankfurt, however, this time she showed a second result, skipping ahead of Irina Kirichenko. At the World Championship in 1967 in Amsterdam, she still regained her championship title, beating both Kirichenko and Yermolaeva.
