France Square ( Spanish Plaza Francia ), also known as Plaza Altamira ( Spanish Plaza Altamira ), is located in the Altamira district, the eastern part of Caracas , the capital of Venezuela . The square was formed in the early 1940s and opened to the public on August 11, 1945 under the name "Altamira Square". Later it was changed to modern as a result of an agreement between the cities of Caracas and Paris , according to which Venezuela Square appeared in Paris, and France Square appeared in Caracas. The square was designed by city planner Luis Roche as part of the Altamira District project, a prosperous part of the municipality of Chacao ( Miranda ).
