Biography
In 1677 he left his native Lyon and went to Paris , where he hired to work in the studio of the famous artist Charles Lebrun , studied the art of painting under the guidance of the master.
He became famous thanks to his portraits painted using the pastel technique. Vivienne became the main promoter of pastel portrait in France. His contemporaries admired the complex use of color; one fan called him " Van Dyck pastels."
In 1698 he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture . Soon he was appointed adviser to the Academy, received a salary and housing at the royal manufactory of tapestries .
From Paris he went to Brussels . Then he was invited by the Elector of Cologne , worked in Munich , as the court painter Maximilian Emanuel, Elector of Bavaria .
He created a number of portraits of members of ruling families, aristocrats, heads of government, prominent representatives of the culture and church of several European states.
