The winners of the championship (for the first time in their history) were the England team , who won the German national team in the final with a score of 2: 1. The USSR national team became the bronze winner of the championship, having beaten the Netherlands national team 3–2 in the match for 3rd place (this was the last USSR national team appearance at the European Championship, later it was replaced by the Russian national team in international competitions).
