Story
The novel takes place at the end of the 20th century in the USA and South America.
The Peruvian terrorist organization, Sendero Luminoso , is conducting a daring rally - the abduction of the family of the CBS TV host Crawford Sloan. In exchange for the lives of the hostages, the terrorists are demanding a live broadcast of five television programs under the general title “World Revolution: Sendero Luminoso points the way.” The leadership of CBS decides to form a group for the search for hostages, it is led by one of the best correspondents of the company Harry Partridge. Sloan's wife, Jessica, is Partridge's former lover.
Partridge’s group succeeds in presenting the actions of the kidnappers, they find shelter for terrorists to temporarily hold hostages, but by this time the terrorists are taking their captives to Peru . Using his contacts, Partridge finds out that the Sendero Luminoso is behind the abduction. He goes to Peru and finds the woman with whom the anesthetist Baudello lived, one of the members of the group.
The Catholic bishop informs Partridge that the Sendero Luminoso leadership ordered the priests to get out of a certain area, as some action is taking place there. After comparing the information, Partridge realizes that the hostages are in Nueva Esperanza - a small village lost in a Peruvian selva .
Partridge’s group decides to conduct the liberation operation on its own, as the Peruvian army will arrange a massacre to exterminate the rebels, in which the hostages will also die. In the dead of night, Partridge’s men destroy the Sender’s guards, free the hostages and go to the landing strip, where the plane must pick them up. Terrorists rush in pursuit.
Unfortunately, one of the boat's engines fails, and the group has to move to the lane on foot. Terrorists overtake the fugitives. When boarding a plane on the runway in the Peruvian Selva, terrorist bullets overtake Partridge, and he dies. The rest are saved.
History of writing a novel
