Nigoyan, Sergey Gagikovich

Born in the village of Bereznovatovka in the Solonyansky district of the Dnipropetrovsk region in a family of Armenians ^[2] . Parents of Sergei Nigoyan moved from the border with the village of Azerbaijan Navur ^[3] . The family was considered prosperous, Sergei in the village was respected ^[4] .

In 2011, he entered the Dneprodzerzhinsk College of Physical Education, where he was expelled in 2013 ^[5] . He was actively engaged in karate , in 2012 he took third place in the championship of Dneprodzerzhinsk in kyokushin-kan karate ^[6] . He was fond of radio engineering ^[7] .

Member of Euromaidan since December 8, 2013. He did not support any of the party leaders, and explained his arrival as follows: “I realized that I should be for the Maidan” ^[4] . In one of the interviews, Sergey also explained his arrival on the Maidan by saying that “he couldn’t calmly watch how the Golden Eagle beat those students, the same citizens, students as I did,” and declared that he was going to stay on the Maidan “in front rows ”and“ to the last ” ^[8] . He was a security guard on Maidan, he lived in tents with protesters from the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, as well as in the House of Trade Unions. ^[9]

In December, Sergey recorded a video on the background of the barricades, where he reads the poem “The Caucasus ” by Taras Shevchenko ^[10] .

He died on January 22, 2014 from being wounded by lead buckshot ^[11] during the events near the Dynamo stadium on Grushevsky Street in Kiev . Death was recorded around 6:30 ^[12] .

He was buried in his native village of Bereznovatovka. The funeral was attended by fellow villagers, representatives of the Armenian community, clergy of both the Armenian and Ukrainian churches. The memorial service was served by the head of the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church , Archbishop Hryhoris Buniatyan ^[13] .

On the fact of the intentional murder of Sergei Nigoyan, criminal proceedings were opened. On January 23, 2014, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine announced the results of the examination, according to which Nigoyan was killed with a shotgun from a hunting rifle - with two shots in the chest and one in the head. The first deputy chief of the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Vitaliy Sakal said that such ammunition is not in the arsenal of the departments of the department, and therefore the version of the murders is being considered with the aim of provoking an escalation of the conflict ^[14] . ^[15] According to the former First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Mykola Golomsha, Nigoyan was shot from the side of the Berkut cordons on Grushevsky Street; the weapon was a Fort smooth-bore police pistol loaded with a live cartridge ^[16] . According to other sources, the Fort-500 pump-action shotgun was the murder weapon ^[17] . A year after the tragedy, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Vitaliy Yarema said that activists of the Maidan Nigoyan, Zhizhevsky and Senik were killed from smooth-bore weapons equipped with hunting cartridges ^[18] . On November 18, 2015, Sergey Gorbatyuk, head of the GPU special investigations department, said that the killers of Nigoyan, Zhizhevsky and Senik had not been identified at the moment. The murder of Nigoyan was carried out at close range by buckshot from a hunting cartridge. At the same time, law enforcement officers were at a distance of about 30 meters from the place of the murder ^[19] . Subsequent examination, according to Gorbatyuk, established that the shots were fired from a distance of more than 20 meters. Law enforcement officials have already entered the circle of suspects. Installed units that were there. The question is narrowing the circle of suspects. ^{[20] [21] [22] [23]} Gorbatyuk also stated that Zhizhevsky and Senik were killed by bullets that only the Ministry of Internal Affairs uses to force stop vehicles, such bullets are not on sale ^[24] .

• As part of the All-Ukrainian campaign in memory of the fallen heroes of Heavenly Hundreds, a memorial plaque was opened on the wall of the school where Sergei Nigoyan studied in the village of Bereznovatovka. Also in his honor was named the central avenue. In July 2014, a monument to Sergei was erected in Bereznovatovka. ^{[26] [27]}
