The son of Ptolemy of Chalcis , was approved by Mark Anthony as ruler of Iturea [1] . According to Josephus Flavius [2] , approx. 40 BC e., during the Parthian occupation of Syria, Lisany convinced Tsarevich Pakor and Satrap Barzafarn to depose Hyrcan II , who ruled Judea , and enthrone Antigonus , his relative, promising for this a thousand talents and 500 concubines. In another essay, Josephus writes that Antigonus, an ally of Lisania, himself promised the Parthians the indicated gifts (and subsequently did not keep his promises) [3] .
During the preparation of the Parthian campaign, Cleopatra , who had views on the possessions of Lisania, persuaded Anthony to put the Iturean tetrarch to death on charges of treasonous relations with the Parthians [4] [5] . The possessions of Lisania were either bought or rented (from Cleopatra?) By Zenodorus [6] .
Perhaps his grandson was Lisanius , tetrarch of Abilene [7] .
