Sound horizon

In the mid-1990s, Revo began uploading his music to his website. In 2001, together with his friend Yokoyan, who is still the author of all the illustrations and covers of the group, he released his 1st album 1st story Chronicle on the 61st Komiket . In the second album, 2nd story Thanatos, which was released on the 62nd Komiket, they were joined by Aramary (Aramary), who participated until 2005, and in subsequent works Jimang (Jimang). After a series of other works, in 2005 the group had its first label - Bell Wood, in which two Elysion were released. After the release of the discs, Bell Wood was replaced by King Records, with which Revo worked until 2011. After a series of conflicts in 2012, Revo changed the label to Pony Canyon. The result of working with King Records was the release of the Chronology disc, which includes clips, leading songs of albums, as well as bonus tracks from them.

In early 2005, Aramari left the project, after which the “second era” began, the number of participants began to grow from album to album, in addition to singers and musicians, a lot of seiyuu, special speakers, actors, dancers appeared. In 2006, the single “Shounen wa tsurugi wo ...” was released under the label Team Entertaiment, which became the main theme for the Chaos War games and Kamigami ga Aishita Rakuen ~ Belle Isle ~.

After starting a partnership with Pony Canyon, Revo founded a third-party project, Linked Horizon. If in Sound Horizon, Revo embodies his original concept, then Linked Horizon is the work for other projects ( Bravely Default , Shingeki no kyoujin ).

Linked Horizon gained great popularity for the openings to Shingeki no Kyojin, which came out in 2013 and had a resounding success. ^[1] In the same year, Linked Horizon took part in Kohaku uta gassen for the first and only time with a special version of the song Guren no Yumiya ^[2]

In 2014-2015, the 10th anniversary of the Major debut was celebrated, during which 3 releases (The Assorted Horizons, Vanishing Starlight, 9th Story Nein) were released, and many albums received adaptations in the form of short stories and manga. The 9th “NEIN” horizon was also released, thus Revo embodied the joke that he would release the 9th story before the 8th. The bonus to the Delux Edition was the single "Marvelous microcosm", which Revo joked about back in 2008.

Since March 2005, there is an official Salon de Horizon fan club and a store. Since 2009, in the course of the collaboration between Revo and designer Yoshiaki Takami, the Laurant brand was created, initially producing clothes and accessories for the band members, and later was reoriented to fans.

On October 27, 2016, in honor of the celebration of the 12th anniversary of the Major-debut, the official website was completely redone, in addition to the Japanese, two Chinese and English versions appeared. The full history of the group, since 2004, is now available on the official website ^[3] .

In 2017, the album Shingeki no Kiseki was released, dedicated to the anime Shingeki no Kyoujin and containing several openings from it, including opening for the 3rd season of Shinzou wo Sasageyo !, and the largest concert tour in the entire history of Sound \ Linked Horizon, including performances of not only in Japan, but in Hong Kong and Taiwan, the planned concert in Singapore was canceled for technical reasons. ^{[4] The} concert ended with a two-day Triumph on January 13 and 14, 2018.

In December, Dutch band Epica, led by Revo, released an Epica vs. cover album. Attack on Titans Songs containing 4 English covers for songs from Shingeki no Kyoujin and their instrumental versions ^[5]

At the same time, Linked Horizon was invited to take part in the Songs of Tokyo, a special performance by artists who deserve to represent Japan’s contemporary musical culture on the eve of the 2020 Olympic Games. ^[6]

Sound Horizon is called the “Fantastic Orchestra” because of its unusual concept. Revo creates story music, and each album is a separate story with its own plot and characters. The works are distinguished by complexity of perception and many interpretations. The subject matter of albums covers different eras and stories: Ancient Greece, Medieval Europe, Reconquista, etc. The main albums are called “horizons”. This was also reflected in musical styles - it is impossible to determine in which particular genre Sanhor works.

In fact, Revo is the only regular participant in Sanhor and Lynchora, the rest of the performers appear in the group only as necessary. One of the features of Revo is that it always wears sunglasses, therefore it earned the nickname “Gurosan” (guras jap. ガ ラ ス - glasses). Another regular participant is Yokoyan, the author of covers and the creator of the design of all the characters, the most mysterious participant, as he has never appeared in public. Other participants, despite their large numbers, are invited artists, seiyuu and musicians.

Sound Horizon has so-called "imaginary" components. ^[7] Sound Horizon fans call themselves “Laurents,” and Revo call themselves their king, and Sound Horizon call them “Kingdom of Sound”. The main holidays of the kingdom are June 19 - the birthday of Revo and October 27 is the birthday of Yokoyan and, at the same time, the date of the major ー debut of Sound Horizon.

Concerts are divided into 2 types: Live Story - concert tours held after the release of the "horizon", and Triumph, with the exception of a special charity tour "Revive!", Held in 2011 to raise funds for earthquake victims. Call concerts "rock operas", "musicals" and so on. incorrectly.

4th Elysion

Fourth Horizon. Represents the concept of good and evil. The album is divided into two parts: Elysion ~ Paradise Fantasy Story Suite ~ and ABYSS ~ Abyss Fantasy Story Suite ~. All even songs fall into the second part, odd ones into the first. Part of Elysion talks about a girl named El, her "good father" and stories from her book. Part ABYSS tells of five girls who have committed a crime because of forbidden or erroneous love.

The fifth horizon. The story unfolds around Yver Laurent - a man who died before he was born. He sends his two dolls - Hortensia and Violet, to look for a story that could become his "Novel". One of the bonus discs sold with 5th Roman contains one song, which, according to many fans, is the true ending of the story.

Story Maxi-single Seisen no Iberia

An album of three songs tells the story of the Reconquista and the girl Leila, whose parents were killed and she was mortally wounded. But before her death, she finds a demon sealed in a rock, whom she calls “Shaitan” and frees him. In gratitude, he promises to put an end to the war.

6th Moira

Sixth horizon. The album is based on Greek mythology and the embodiment of fate in it, in addition to mythology, it reflected the Iliad , the biography of Heinrich Schliemann and the history of Ancient Greece.

The main characters of the album are the twins Elefseus and Artemissia, whose parents were killed and they were sold into slavery. The main theme of the album is the fight against Fate.

According to Revo, it would be more correct to say that this is a single song called “Moira”, divided into several parts only for ease of reproduction. It was originally planned to create a story on two CDs, but, for unknown reasons, had to be reduced to one, as a result of which many side lines of the story did not receive proper development.

The album was inspired by the history of medieval Germany and tells about the fate of a woman named Theresa von Luding, who was burned at the stake, and her son Merz. The single is a prologue to the 7th horizon of Marchen

7th Märchen

Seventh Horizon. The key symbol in the album is the number seven. Revo himself said that the number of sevens in the album exceeds a hundred. Most notable: seven fairy tales were selected for the album, the text of the booklet takes 77 pages, the theme of the album is 7 deadly sins, etc.

The plot focuses on Merchen von Friedhof, a spirit living in a well, and his companion is the Elise doll. They meet seven "princesses", and offer each to take revenge on those who harmed them or contributed to their death.
