Guillermo Blest Ghana was born in Santiago to the family of Irishman William Cunningham Blest and Maria de la Luz Ghana Darrigrandi from an aristocratic family of landowners. Brother of the writer Alberto Blast Ghana , the founder of a realistic novel in Latin America .

He studied at the Chilean National University , and later was a professor there. In addition to creativity, he took part in the political life of the country.

In 1857, for opposition to the government of Manuel Montt was sentenced to expulsion from Chile, he lived in several countries of America and Europe.

After returning to the country in 1863, he taught at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Chile. Under the new government, G. Blest Ghana joined the diplomatic service, was an envoy to Ecuador , Argentina and Brazil . In 1891, due to the outbreak of civil war, he emigrated to Peru . In 1894 he returned to his homeland and was elected mayor of Linares .

Creativity

At the beginning of his creative career, he tried himself as a prose writer, wrote novels (El bandido, 1854; La flor de la soledad, 1857), novels, short stories (Las dos tumbas, 1869), historical dramas (Lorenzo García ", 1847;" La conjuración de Almagro ", 1858;" El pasaporte ", 1865).
