Biography
He studied mathematics, physics and astronomy at the University of Berlin , where he received his doctoral degree in 1843 for his work De attractione moleculari . Pupil of Heinrich Wilhelm Dove .
Then he worked at the Berlin Observatory under the direction of Johann Encke .
In 1847-1851 led the Dusseldorf Observatory .
In 1851 he returned as a chief scientist at the Berlin Observatory.
In 1854, Brunnov was invited to the USA in Ann Arbor ( Michigan ), where he became director of a newly built observatory and taught at the University of Michigan .
After working in Ann Arbor, he was deputy director in Albany , in 1859–1860 - Dudley Observatory in Schenectady , New York , USA .
Put articles in Astronomical Notices magazine .
In 1863 he returned to Europe and from 1866 to 1874 worked as a royal astronomer in Ireland , succeeding Sir William Rowan Hamilton , and a professor of astronomy at Trinity College in Dublin , and supervised the local observatory.
In 1874 he retired. He died on August 20, 1891 in Heidelberg .
