Shmukler, Valery Samuilovich

Born on June 26, 1946 in Krasnoyarsk. In 1949, the family moved to the city of Kharkov.

Father, Shmukler Samuil Iosifovich, is a mechanical engineer, chief mechanic of the construction trust No. 86. Mother, Asya Abramovna Shklovskaya, is a chemist, head. laboratory at a pharmaceutical institute.

In 1964 he entered the Kharkov Institute of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Industrial and Civil Engineering, which he graduated in 1969 with a diploma in civil engineering from industrial and civil facilities.

From 1969 to 1986 in the GPI "Kharkivproekt" consistently held positions from engineer to head of department. From 1986 to 1990 he worked at the GPI "Ukrgorstroyproekt" (from the head of the technical department to the deputy chief engineer).

In 1977 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of technical sciences, the theme "Study of the operation of shallow reinforced concrete shells." In 1997 - a doctoral dissertation, topic: "Spatial reinforced concrete frame systems for multi-criteria matching."

Since 1990, he has been working at the A.N. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Municipal Economy: professor at the Department of Building Structures, since 2012 - head of the department.

In GPI "Kharkoproekt" created one of the first computer centers in Ukraine for the calculation and computer-aided design of housing construction projects.

Under his leadership and with direct participation, a number of CAD systems for construction projects were created.

In the same years, he became a co-author of the KHS series (Complex Kharkov Series) for the construction of sixteen-story large-panel residential buildings and one of the organizers of a network of cluster computing centers of the Gosstroy system of the Ukrainian SSR.

While working at the State Public Institution “Ukrgorstroyproekt” after the earthquake in Armenia, he took an active part in the restoration of housing, social and cultural facilities.

Scientific interests are related to the theory of structural systems, information technology for calculation and design of structures, methods for their optimization and rationalization.

The main works in this area include:

• integral gradient method for searching the global extremum of functionals of many variables;
• a method for solving multicriteria optimization problems;
• redefined contour collocation method for solving boundary value problems of the theory of plates and shells;
• compilation methods for solving nonlinear problems of construction theory.

In 1995, the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of architecture was awarded for the development, research and implementation of the new architectural and construction system "RAMPA" for housing and civil construction.

The author of the hydraulic method for experimental research of structures.

He took part in the design and construction of unique objects, such as:

• library complex NTU "KhPI" (Kharkov);
• reconstruction of the ground complex of the Office of the National Satellite Communications System in Crimea;
• a complex of 28-story residential buildings in Kharkov;
• logistics center of the company "Maxus";
• entertainment complex "Misto";
• exposition center on Constitution Square in Kharkov.

He participated in the reconstruction of architectural monuments of the era of constructivism: the 52nd post office (Kharkov); Gosprom building (Kharkov), etc.

In 1999 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Construction of Ukraine.

Scientific merits were awarded: for the organization, implementation and development of youth construction in Ukraine - Medal "40 years of the movement of the Youth Union" (2011); for the outstanding contribution to the development of science, technology and engineering in Ukraine - the Silver Medal of the Academy of Construction of Ukraine (2013) and the Gold Medal. A.N. Podgorny Engineering Academy of Ukraine (2014). In 2015, she was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine”.

Member of the International Association for Shells and Other Spatial Structures, IASC (1980), member of the International Scientific Society ACI-international (American Institute of Concrete, USA) (1997).

Since 1990, he taught at the A.N. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Municipal Economy, holding the posts of professor of the Department of Building Structures, and since 2012 - the head of the department. He teaches a course on the modern theory of building structures.

Member of the Specialized Scientific Council (D 64.056.4) at the Kharkov State Technical University of Construction and Architecture for the defense of doctoral and master's theses in the construction specialty 05.23.01 "Building structures, buildings and structures."

He was awarded the diploma "Excellent student of higher education of Ukraine" (2002).

Author and co-author of more than 170 scientific papers and 60 inventions. His works have been published in leading scientific journals in Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain, Italy, China, Japan, the USA, and Iraq. Valery Samuilovich - member of the editorial boards of scientific publications “Concrete and reinforced concrete in Ukraine” (Poltava) , "Science Newsletter" (Kharkov), "Communal Government Mist" (Kharkov).
