He held various government posts: he was the Ambassador of Portugal to the Netherlands, France, Prussia and Russia. When he was the first Minister of King Juan VI , the Portuguese court moved to Brazil . There he served as Minister of the Navy and Foreign Affairs.
He conducted research and experiments in his own palace and private botanical garden. Contributed to the development of education and industry in Brazil; founded a china factory in Rio de Janeiro. The first time he acclimatized tea in Brazil, established tea plantations.
One of the founders of the Royal Academy of Sciences . Corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences from 08.22.1791 [1] Author of two tragedies, also translated pastorals of Virgil .
