Prague Smith

Born in the family of an architect and radiologist. Mother died early, father died in construction as a result of an accident. From the age of 14, Peter Miller earned his own living. He worked as a blacksmith, while graduating from high school.

He entered the University of Economics at Prague , but was expelled before graduation. For almost 30 years, Peter Miller worked as a blacksmith at the enterprises of ČKD .

Work Leader

In November 1989, Peter Miller organized working talks in support of the Velvet Revolution . On November 23, 1989, he led a working demonstration on Wenceslas Square in support of student protests. He was one of the leaders of a nationwide strike on November 27, 1989 [1] .

Miller was one of the key negotiators between the Civil Forum and the Czechoslovak government. It was he who on November 28, 1989 demanded from the Prime Minister Ladislav Adamets the resignation of the communist government [2] .

This decision was made in the men's restroom during a five-minute break. It was very spontaneous and fast, without consulting anyone.

Politician and Minister

On December 10, 1989, Peter Miller became Minister of Labor and Social Policy in the new office of Marian Chalfa . He remained in office until July 1992 . This period saw the most difficult stage of economic transformations, which the CSFR - mainly in the Czech Republic - managed to carry out with lower social costs than in other countries of Eastern Europe.

In the 1990 parliamentary elections, Peter Miller was elected to the Civil Forum. Since 1991 was a member of the liberal Civil Movement . In February, he joined the Social Democratic Party , claimed the post of chairman, but was not elected.

Entrepreneurial manager

Since the mid-1990s, Peter Miller left politics and went into business [4] . He was in the management of the companies Ekotrans Moravia , Chemapol Group , the Koruna pension fund. In 1999 - 2000 he worked as the HR Director in one of the structures of the state energy company ČEZ , in 2002 - 2003 - as the General Director of Empirie . Since 2008 - Secretary of the Association of Recyclers.

In 2002-2003, Miller led the office of the Czech Minister of Culture.

Peter Miller is married for the third time, has three children. Willingly communicates with the press, recalling the events of 1989.
