Cosmetic (aesthetic) dentistry is one of the areas of dentistry, through which the adjustment of the shape, color of teeth, as well as their decoration.
History of Aesthetic Dentistry
People began to think about the aesthetic appeal of teeth 4,000 years ago. In different countries, this process occurred in different ways.
In Japan, women and men painted their teeth black. Married women were thus different from unmarried, and samurai men emphasized loyalty to their master. In addition, the black color of the teeth contrasted with the white color of the skin, thereby creating a special beauty.
Some representatives of African tribes grind their teeth. It was believed that the soul after death leaves the body through the mouth and to help her in this, it is necessary to create such holes in the teeth. Later this was forgotten and teeth grinding was considered just an aesthetic norm.
The Mayans decorated their teeth with semiprecious stones and used special fillings for incisors as well for decoration.
In the 1-2 century, the first prosthesis was installed instead of lost teeth, it was fastened with gold wire.
The term "aesthetic dentistry" appeared in the 60-70s of the 20th century in the United States. Today, aesthetic dentistry is perhaps the most sought-after service, many are concerned not only with the health of the teeth, but also with their appearance. Thanks to modern methods and materials it is possible to fulfill almost all the wishes of the client in form, color of teeth.
