He graduated with honors from the Moscow Institute of Telecommunications Engineers (1942). During the Great Patriotic War he served as a radio engineer.

In 1945-1959 he worked at Laboratory No. 2 of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (later, the I. V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy ). Member of the creation of cyclotrons . In 1953, as part of a group of scientists, he became a laureate of the Stalin Prize .

In 1959-1966, Deputy Director for Science at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk). Together with G.I. Budker, he directed the creation of the first accelerators in the USSR in colliding beams ( Lenin Prize , 1967).

Since 1966, deputy director for science at the Institute of High Energy Physics . He took part in the commissioning of the Serpukhov proton accelerator for a beam energy of 76 GeV.

For work on colliding beams in 1961 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences. In 1964 he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

He was awarded the Order of Lenin , two orders of the Red Banner of Labor , the Order of the Badge of Honor, and medals.
