The Grand Prix of Europe ( English Grand Prix of Europe , German Großer Preis von Europa ) is one of the stages of the Formula 1 World Championship racing. Since the mid-1980s, the Grand Prix first appears in the schedule of the Formula 1 World Championship, but only since 1993 it becomes a regular stage of the series. Before World War II , a competition was also held called the “European Grand Prix” - as a rule, it was one of the national Grand Prix. The first such competition was held as part of the Italian Grand Prix of 1923 at the Monza National Circuit in Italy . The victory in that competition was won by Carlo Salmano on a Fiat 805.

History
Before World War II
The European Grand Prix was established by AIACR, the forerunner of the FIA in the organization of racing competitions. The first race was also called the Italian Grand Prix , and was held in 1923 . Then followed the race in the Grand Prix of France and the Grand Prix of Belgium , and after missing in 1929 , the race at the Spa in 1930 completed the pre-war history of the European Grand Prix.
1947-1977
After the Second World War, the European Grand Prix resumed in 1947 with a race in the framework of the Belgian Grand Prix . After that, individual national Grand Prix received this title until the British Grand Prix in 1977 (for example, the very first official Formula 1 Grand Prix - the 1950 British Grand Prix was called the XI European Grand Prix).
1983-1985
In the 1983 season, it was decided to organize a Formula 1 stage in New York . However, at the last moment, the race was canceled, and the owners of the British Brands Hatch highway offered to organize the European Grand Prix, which took place on September 25th . In 1984 , Brands Hatch hosted the British Grand Prix , and the European Grand Prix was held at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany . In 1985 , another European stage was held in Brands Hatch , but the next season the stage was replaced by the Hungarian Grand Prix .
Since 1993
The idea of the European stage was revived in 1993 , after the failure of the idea with the organization of the Asian Grand Prix (later this idea is implemented in the Pacific Grand Prix) and the exception to the Mexican Grand Prix calendar. After that, the European Grand Prix was held annually, with the exception of the 1998 season. Some of these Grand Prix events were facilitated by the problems of the organizers of other stages of the championship. In 1994 , the Argentinean Grand Prix planned for the fall was postponed to the next year, the South African Grand Prix was to be held in its place, but the European Grand Prix was held on the highway in Jerez . In 1997 , the European Grand Prix was not originally planned (the race on its permanent track in the Nurburgring was called the Luxembourg Grand Prix for two years due to European tobacco law), but because of the unpreparedness after the reconstruction of the track in Estoril, the final stage was also transferred to Jerez and is named the European Grand Prix. From 2008 to 2012 , the European Grand Prix was held in Valencia , Spain . In 2016, the European stage of Formula 1 was taken by Azerbaijani Baku [1] .
