Biography

Kavita Krishnamurti was born on January 25, 1958 in the city of New Delhi into a Tamil family of orthodox Hindus from the caste ( brahmanas, followers of the Vishishta-advaita philosophy). Real name is Sharada Krishnamurti. Her father was an employee of the Ministry of Human Resources Development .

From childhood, she studied Indian classical music - first from her aunt, Mrs. Bhattacharia, who taught her Rabindra Sangit - songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore , based mainly on Indian classical music and folk music of Bengal . Then she studied with the classical singer Balram Puri.

At the age of 8, she won her first gold medal at a music competition. Subsequently, she won many medals at similar competitions. In 1971 , at the age of 13, she recorded her first song in verses by Rabindranath Tagore in Bengali to the music of the composer Hemant Kumar along with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar .

At the age of 14, she arrived in Bombay with her aunt. She graduated from St. Xavier College , has a doctorate in economics. At the same time, she was looking for opportunities to become a professional singer.

As a student, she was introduced to the composer Hemant Kumar, at the invitation of which she began to perform in his concerts. At one of these concerts, Manna Day noticed Cavit Krishnamurti and invited her to sing advertising jingles .

In 1976 , thanks to the assistance of her aunt and her close friend Jaya Chakravarti (mother of actress Hema Malini ), she met the composer Laxmikant , who gave her a chance to perform songs for films.

Kavita Krishnamurti performed a large number of songs based on classical music. Throughout her career, she collaborated with various composers, including R. D. Boorman and A. R. Rahman . On November 11, 1999 in Bangalore, Cavita Krishnamurti married a famous musician - Dr. Lakshminarayan Subramaniam . The couple has no children.

Subramanyam has three children from a previous marriage:

  • Narayan Subramaniam ( born Dr. Narayana Subramaniam ) - the middle son, a doctor.
