Biography

Born February 19, 1964 in Saratov . Russian.

In 1981 he entered the service in the Armed Forces of the USSR. In 1985 he graduated from the Saratov Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots , after which he served in the helicopter units of the border troops , and since 1985 - the senior navigator of the Mi-8 helicopter.

Member of the Afghan war.

Since 1989, he served in the 23rd separate aviation regiment of the Central Asian border region: helicopter commander, since 1991 - senior helicopter commander, since 1992 - flight unit commander, since 1995 - squadron commander. Since 1990 - as part of the aircraft of the Federal Border Guard Service of Russia in Tajikistan, he actively participated in the hostilities on the Tajik-Afghan border. The total combat raid in 1990-1995 was 2700 hours, it made over 400 sorties.

On April 11, 1995, Major Tarasov flew to the Vanch border guard post of the Kalai-Khumbi border detachment, where he destroyed two enemy firing points with the help of on-board weapons, landed under the return fire and unloaded the ammunition. During take-off, the helicopter was shot at and damaged, but Tarasov brought the damaged helicopter to the airfield.

On September 29, 1995, in the area of ​​Shurabad, on a section of the Moscow border detachment, he flew to the aid of a motorized maneuver group that was ambushed, destroyed an ammunition depot and a ferry crossing, and on the same day made a second flight to help the same group, destroying two mortars and a machine gun point of the militants.

On April 7, 1996, at the site of the 14th border outpost of the Moscow border detachment, he covered fire with evacuation and scattered the sapper group and scattered a group of militants.

By the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1251 [2] dated August 23, 1996 for courage and heroism shown during the fulfillment of special tasks of the command in conditions involving a risk to life, Lieutenant Colonel (according to other sources - at that time Major [3] ) Vasily Tarasov Vladimirovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the presentation of the Golden Star medal (No. 337).

He continues to serve in the aviation department of the FSB of Russia. In 2001 he graduated from the Air Force Academy named after Yu. A. Gagarin .
