Debuted in the team at the official level of 4 volleyball players.

As for the performance of the national team in the tournament, then in general it is recognized as successful. Having selected the final stage only at the last moment due to a 100% indicator in the home final round of the preliminary stage, in the decisive stage of the draw, the Russians won a five-set-willed victory over the Chinese national team on the last game day and for the first time since 2009 became one of the Grand Prix winners . The symbolic national team of the final round included the Russian team debutant, central blocker Irina Fetisova.

Russian volleyball players went to the World Cup in Italy as reigning world champions, and with reinforcement in the person of world volleyball star Ekaterina Gamova, who returned to the national team. It seemed to the Russians that they could defend the championship title, but at the crucial moments of the tournament the game imbalance was negatively affected by the game imbalance, caused primarily by flaws in the reception. Players who were able to stably and reliably answer for this crucial component of the game in the team were not enough, and even one of the key gamers, Alexander Pasynkov, was injured during the championship. Successful matches (against the Netherlands, Serbia) and game segments against other strong opponents alternated with gross technical and tactical errors. Attempts by the coaches to return to the game style, which allowed them to win the European championship a year ago, did not lead to anything. And yet, despite the general negative impression of the final result (sharing the 5th final place with the Dominican Republic team), it should be noted that in only one final match of the 3rd group stage against the Italian volleyball players, the Russians looked uniquely weaker than their rivals. In the remaining lost meetings with a little more luck, the Russian team could well count on a successful outcome of the fights.

Summary

In total, the Russian national team accounted for 25 official matches in 2014. Of these, 14 were won, 11 were lost. The ratio of the games is 53:44. The rivals of the Russians in these matches were the national teams of 15 countries.
