Biography
World War I and Civil War
Russian, from a noble family of Swedish descent. Brother - Vladimir Davydovich Grendal , Russian and Soviet military leader, artillery scientist. Colonel General of Artillery. He graduated from the Pskov Cadet Corps ( 1916 ). Member of the First World War . Red Guard (December 1917 - June 1918). Member of the Civil War. He fought “against the German occupiers and sowing. White Army 1918 and 1919 under the Travinsky group, against the Poles and White-Lithuanians in the 15th and 16th armies. in 1919-1920, against Makhno and Wrangel in the XII and XI armies of 1920-21. "Head of the artillery command (June 1918 - June 1920), commander of the landing squad (June 1920 - January 1921), assistant commander of the armored train (January - March 1921) [1] .
Interwar years
In 1921 he entered, and in 1922 he graduated from the Military School of Observer Pilots. Observer pilot and deputy detachment commander (October 1922 - July 1924), assistant chief of the operational unit of the Air Force of the Leningrad Military District (July 1924 - November 1926), 3rd Division of the 1st Directorate of the Red Army Headquarters (November 1926 - September 1927), member of the CPSU (b) since 1924. In 1936 he entered, and in 1938 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff. Lecturer in Aviation Tactics, Military Academy M.V. Frunze (October 1938 - December 1939), from December 1939 he was deputy chief of operations of the Red Army Air Force headquarters. By Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR No. 945 dated 06/04/1940, the rank of Major General of Aviation [2] was awarded on June 14, 1940 for the successful completion of command assignments and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner [1] .
