Extraordinary presidential elections in Iran in 1981, held October 2, 1981. The need to hold extraordinary elections was caused by the murder on August 30 of the same year by the previous president, Mohammad Ali Rajai . Ali Khamenei won a convincing victory in the early elections, gaining 97% of the votes that came to the polls [1] .
