Auroracoin was created as an alternative currency to meet state restrictions on the Icelandic krona introduced in 2008, which severely limits the movement of currency outside the country. [2] Icelandic Foreign Exchange Law also prohibits the exchange of Bitcoin's foreign currency in the country, according to the Minister of Government. [five]
History
The pseudonym Baldur Friggjar Óðinsson is based on Norse mythology , referring to Baldur , his mother Frigg , and his father Odin . 50% of all coins were distributed to the population of Iceland using the national identification system. The developer hopes for a network effect of distribution and the beginning of public discussion of the currency.
