The 239th Fighter Aviation Division ( 239th Iad ) was a unit of the Air Forces of the Red Army that took part in the hostilities of the Great Patriotic War .

Division Creation

The 239th Fighter Division was created on June 12, 1942 on the basis of the 6th Attack Aviation Group [1] .

Renaming Division

The 239th Fighter Division on March 18, 1943 for the exemplary performance of command assignments in battles with German invaders and the courage and heroism shown at that, was renamed the 5th Guards Fighter Division based on the Order of the NKO USSR [2]
