Division Creation
The 239th Fighter Division was created on June 12, 1942 on the basis of the 6th Attack Aviation Group [1] .
Renaming Division
The 239th Fighter Division on March 18, 1943 for the exemplary performance of command assignments in battles with German invaders and the courage and heroism shown at that, was renamed the 5th Guards Fighter Division based on the Order of the NKO USSR [2]
