In 1931, Gusak led a ski trip along the passes around Elbrus , and in 1931-1941 he made 13 ascents to Elbrus, including seven winter ones. In 1932-1933, he participated in an expedition that explored the glaciers of Upper Svaneti . In 1934, Gusak worked as a senior instructor in the courses of the Society of Proletarian Tourism and Excursions (OPTE), which took place in Elbrus region , and made several ascents along with cadets [1] [2] [3] .
In 1936, Nikolai Gusak was in the Pamirs as part of a climbing group, exploring possible routes to climb Stalin's peak ( 7495 m ) - the highest peak of the USSR (later - the peak of Communism , and now - the peak of Ismoil Somoni ). In addition to Gusak, the group included P.N. Alhambrov , Eugene Beletsky , Danil Gushchin , Alexander (Alyosha) Dzhaparidze andIvan Fedorov . They explored the Fortambek Glacier area . In addition, Gusak together with Alyosha Dzhaparidze explored a possible path to the top of Korzhenevskaya peak ( 7105 m ). The results of this reconnaissance were subsequently used by the group of Alexei Ugarov , who made the first ascent to Korzhenevskaya peak in 1953 [2] .
In 1937, Nikolai Gusak was again in the Pamirs, this time as part of a large expedition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the October Revolution . From Osh, members of the mountaineering group reached the Fedchenko Glacier area and organized several intermediate camps at the eastern slope of Stalin Peak ( Communism Peak ) - along the same route along which pathfinder Evgeny Abalakov climbed in 1933. First Oleg Aristov , Victor Kirkorov and Nikolai Gusak made the first ascent to the peak of Ordzhonikidze ( 6636 m ), located in the eastern spur of the ridge of the Academy of Sciences [6] [7] . An excerpt from the memoirs of N. Gusak “Storm Peak Stalin” We did not stop the assault. The business begun with Oleg had to be completed. Led by the group’s political leader, Evgeni Beletsky, we moved forward. These were the last meters. Step, another step - and the goal is achieved. Victory!!! |
